Urban Planting Project

Sustainable initiatives that bring together the environment and food.

Upp promotes urban food production using the hydro-aquaponics system, offering a range of benefits such as increased biodiversity, health benefits and community cohesion.

Their proposed solutions are:

  1. Greening up facades and rooftops
  2. To promote self-sufficient food production through hydroponics and aquaponics
  3. Exploring how to grow food more efficiently in small urban spaces
  4. Organising activities and initiatives to share knowledge and promote greening techniques in the city, as well as growing food at home, in schools and within communities.

Climate Awareness Workshop for Schools

The Urban Planting Project has created a special workshop to raise awareness about climate change and food sovereignty.

The workshop consists of two activities: one focused on sustainable education and one performance-based activity.

Both aim to help students understand the importance of reconnecting with nature and protecting it, as well as learning how to look after our food and realising that we can create our own green space at home.

Semillero Workshop: learn at school and put it into practice at home!

Upp suggests setting up your own seedbed garden at school, with the aim of replicating this at home, as well as learning how to do so using recycled materials.

It is a collaborative workshop for pupils, designed to help them recognise the importance of community-based planting and care.

A Breath of Fresh Air from the Forest by Annamaria Giacomelli

The performance complements the seedbed workshop, helping participants to understand the relationship between nature and humankind.

The original performance comprises several stories and lasts a total of one hour; however, to make it more dynamic and to complement the seedbed workshop, it has been condensed to 20 minutes, focusing on just one of the stories, which recounts the long-standing friendship between a man and a tree.
